• Mohawk Valley Elementary School - There will be a board meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Meet the teacher night will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21.
• Wellton Elementary School - There will be a meet and greet open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday for parents to meet the teachers and see their children’s classrooms. School begins Wednesday, which will also be an early release day, as will every Wednesday through the school year.
• Dateland Elementary School - School begins today.
• Town of Wellton - The town of Wellton has joined more than 20,000 communities nationwide that are allowed to purchase federally backed flood insurance. This availability follows the community’s adoption and enforcement of ordinances to reduce flood losses and acceptance by the National Flood Insurance program. Residents of the town will be able to purchase flood insurance up to the limits.

Pool hours are 1 to 5 p.m. every day for the intercession through Aug. 12. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. weekends and 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays for in-school session from Aug. 13 to Sept. 27. Family Nite hours at the pool will be 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. Children must be accompanied by a parent to attend.
Harvest Club boxes are available at Town Hall for $20 cash only. The last day to purchase them is Tuesday, and distribution will be 8 to 9 a.m. Friday at the Wellton Food Bank.
The next alley cleanup will be the first week of September. Call the town for more information or to be put on the list.
• Yuma County Health Department - The health department offers adult and children’s immunizations at walk-in clinics throughout the county. For more information, call 317-4559. They are held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Friday of each month in Wellton at the old Head Start building. A $10 fee is charged per child, per visit at all clinics. However, no child will be turned away for inability to pay.
• Dobson museum - The museum in Tacna is available for viewing by appointment only. Call Windy at 785-4013.
• Animal Guardian Angels - The Thrift Shoppe summer hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 28809 San Jose Ave. (across from the Baptist church). For more information, call 785-4819.
Pet wellness vaccination clinics are held from 9 to 11 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Walk-ins are accepted without appointment. For more information, call 785-4819 or Virginia at 785-8250.
• Wellton Senior Nutrition - Hot meals are served from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at the Community Center on Dome Street. For more information, call 785-4585.
• VFW Post No. 6790 Men's and Ladies Auxiliary - A steak dinner with all the trimmings from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 for a donation of $9. Taco dinners will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. every Thursday for a $4 donation. Happy hour is 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Breakfasts are served at 8 a.m. Saturdays. All-U-Can-Eat pancakes for a donation of $3 per person or ham and eggs for a $5 donation.
Hamburgers/cheeseburgers and fries with all the trimmings will be served Mondays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Burgers are $4/$4.50 donation. There is a pool tournament, double elimination, at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. The entry fee is $5. All events are open to the public.

• Habitat for Humanity - Collection sites have been set up to assist the public in recycling aluminum cans and the Nos. 1 and 2 plastic bottles in Wellton and east county. Each of the locations will have an "Enviro green" Habitat collection house. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, call 783-3993.
Locations are: Coyote Wash Road, Pete's Body Shop, Animal Guardian Angel Thrift Store, Mota's Market, Sun Country RV Park, Coach Stop RV Park, Wellton Community Presbyterian Church, Tier Drop RV Park, Ligurta Station, Circle K Store, Wellton School, Del Sol Grocery and Citrus City Community Center.
• Yuma County Area Transit - YCAT offers services from Wellton to Yuma and connecting services to many places in Yuma County including Yuma Palms, Cocopah Casino, YRMC and Wal-Mart stores with four trips a day.
• Wellton library - The library is open all day on Saturdays.
Story time is 11 a.m. Wednesday for children ages 3 to 5. There is a teen craft program at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

• Dateland branch library - This branch of the Yuma County library is located within the Dateland school. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, except that it is closed the last Thursday of every month, but open on Monday of that week.

• Roll branch library - This branch of the Yuma County library is located within the Mohawk Valley school. All library programs are free. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. For more information, call Lucy Shaw at 785-3701 on days when the library is open.
