Dec. 7 remembrance (photo)

An American flag flies at half-staff above the graves of veterans in the Field of Honor at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1415 S. 1st Ave., in remembrance of those lost during the Dec. 7, 1941 surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, 71 years ago. In an hour and a half, the Japanese sank or damaged 21 American warships, killed 2,390 people and destroyed or damaged 320 planes in the attack. The USS Arizona still sits at the bottom of Pearl Harbor today.
