Parents of children with diabetes can apply for their youngsters to attend an overnight camp Nov. 14-15 at the Sheriff’s Posse Arena.
Being held for the first time in Yuma, Camp Celebrations will feature fun activities and learning experiences supervised by medical staff trained in diabetes self-management. It will provide a safe environment for children to make new friends and help them realize they are not alone in learning to live with diabetes, according to a news release.
The overnight camp is for children ages 8 to 12 with diabetes. It is sponsored by Yuma Regional Medical Center with financial support from the Yuma Bikers Against Diabetes Fund of the YRMC Foundation.
Cost is $20, but scholarships are available. Applications must be received by Sept. 30.
To receive an application, call Christine Winters, YRMC Diabetes Program coordinator, at 336-2332. The application includes a questionnaire to be completed by the child’s health-care provider. Completed applications will be reviewed by a medical committee to ensure the child qualifies to attend.
