Dine out Friday to help food bank

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Yumans who dine at two local restaurants Friday will help battle hunger for others.

Esther's Good Eats and Chretin's Mexican Food will both participate in Dine Out for Hunger, a "community call to action" supporting the Yuma Community Food Bank.

Both restaurants will share a percentage of the day's sales with the food bank.

"One in eight Americans struggles with hunger," the food bank officials said in a news statement. "The smallest gift can make a big difference to those in need in every community. The Yuma Community Food Bank is asking families, co-workers, community groups, and individuals to participate in our Dine Out for Hunger Day."

Esther's Good Eats will participate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Chretin's will participate from 5 p.m. to closing.

Yuma's food bank, which serves Yuma and La Paz counties, is the third largest in Arizona. It was founded in 1978 by a group of volunteers.

The food bank receives 111,000 visits a year from people in the community.

In addition to its own food offerings, the food bank supports 15 emergency and supplement food programs, plus 52 other nonprofit agencies throughout Yuma and La Paz counties.
