Is there any old or leftover paint, antifreeze or motor oil lying around your garage? Want to get rid of it?

Don't pour it down the drain - that can harm the environment.

The city of Yuma will take it off your hands for free on Saturday as part of its quarterly household hazardous waste disposal program.

All Yuma County residents can drop off such waste items between 7 and 11 a.m. at the city of Yuma's North Public Works Yard, 265 W. 13th St.

Items that will accepted for disposal include electronic items, motor oil, antifreeze, paint, solvents, household cleaners, pesticides, fertilizers, batteries and old tires that have been removed from the rims.

Also accepted are recyclable items such as aluminum cans, cardboard, newspapers, clear plastic , documents and shredded papers.

Items that will not be accepted are large household appliances, commercial waste, commercial recycling materials, explosives, ammunition, pressurized gas or radioactive materials.

Sponsoring household hazardous waste program drop-off with the city are the city of Somerton and Yuma County.

Sponsors of the recycling drop-off include the city of Yuma, Habitat for Humanity, Mission Disposal, Allied Waste, Yuma Community Food Bank and Desert Document Shredders.

The drop-off days take place quarterly. The next ones are scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 11, Jan. 10 and April 11.
