Yuma man charged with felony in hit-and-run

The Yuma man arrested last week for his alleged role in a hit-and-run has been charged with a single felony.

Vincente Nuñez-Dominguez Jr., 23, was charged Tuesday afternoon in Yuma Justice Court before Justice of the Peace Pro-Tem Yolanda Torok with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury. Bail had previously been set at $50,000, but Nuñez-Dominguez Jr. has posted it and is now out of custody.

Attorney Richard Edgar represented Nuñez-Dominguez Jr. during his arraignment and waived the formal reading of the complaint and any further advisement of his client's rights during what was a very brief court hearing.

Nuñez-Dominguez Jr.'s next court date is a preliminary hearing at 4 p.m. March 7.

Yuma police found parts of what appeared to be an orange-colored vehicle in the area of a hit-and-run collision on Feb. 11 that injured pedestrian Tobias Duvall, 40.

Following up on an anonymous call placed to 78-CRIME, Yuma police arrested Nuñez-Dominguez Jr. last week after they found him painting and repairing his black and orange 2007 Honda Civic in the area of 19th Place and Magnolia Avenue.

An investigation connected Nuñez-Dominguez Jr. and his vehicle as being involved in the hit-and-run, which left Duvall injured and lying in the roadway.

The collision happened in the 100 block of East 16th Street. Duvall, who remains at Yuma Regional Medical Center in fair condition, suffered head and torso injuries similar to someone being hit by a vehicle.

According to police, Nuñez-Dominguez Jr. was arrested and booked into the Yuma County jail. His vehicle was also seized.
