Dunes ready for season
The Bureau of Land Management encourages duners and off-road enthusiasts who visit the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area to be safe while having fun in the sun during the 2012-2013 season.
“We want to emphasize safety when recreating in America's great outdoors,” said Margaret Goodro, field manager of BLM's El Centro Office.
BLM reminds visitors to the dunes to be aware of terrain hazards and to always wear their seat belts and harnesses on and off-road. Duners are also asked not to drive more than 15 mph while traveling within 50 feet of camping areas and people.
Both the Cahuilla and Buttercup Ranger Stations are now open, staffed and ready to aid visitors to the dunes by providing information and emergency medical services.
Those who wish to enjoy the sand dunes this season will need to purchase a permit for the primary vehicle they use for transportation to the recreation site. A permit is required at all times while in ISDRA and should be displayed prominently.
