The Yuma County Fair opens today, and admission is only $1.

With the cost of admission, fairgoers can see all the entertainment, including a magician, the sea lion encounter, a hypnotist and the agricultural exhibits.

The fair officially opens at 3 p.m. today.

As they have in the past, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office will have a "large amount" of deputies and volunteers manning the fairgrounds all week during the Yuma County Fair, which begins on Tuesday.

"Our goal is to keep things safe so everyone can have a good time," said Capt. Eben Bratcher of the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

"We will have a very visible presence."

Bratcher said the sheriff's office is hired by the fair each year to provide security inside the fairgrounds and YPD will be handling security and traffic issues in the parking lot and the roads around the fair.

Deputies will be on foot patrolling the midway, providing security at both gates of the beer garden to check identification and stop disturbances and at the commercial and theater buildings.

The sheriff's posse will also be patrolling the parking lot on horseback.

Bratcher added the sheriff's office has also contacted other law enforcement agencies from to provide assistance such as  the Yuma County Probation Department and the state gang task force.

In addition to metal detectors at every entrance, no weapons will be allowed and fairgoers will not be allowed to wear any gang attire.
