Individual carrying contraband arrested at airport
An unidentified individual attempting to board a flight at the Yuma International Airport has been arrested and is currently being investigated by the FBI for allegedly being in possession of a “prohibited item” while attempting to board a plane Wednesday morning.
The FBI would not comment on what the prohibited item was and also declined to release the identity of the individual involved in the incident.
“At this time it would not be appropriate to identify the passenger due to our ongoing investigation,” Special Agent Manuel Johnson, media coordinator for the FBI Phoenix Division, wrote in an e-mail.
According to the FBI, the incident occurred at about 8 a.m.
United Express and US Airways Express both have flights to and from Yuma, but the FBI did not release information about which specific flight the person intended to board, or the final destination.
The Yuma Police Department would not comment on the matter, and directed all queries to the FBI.
Official comment from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, which shares airspace with the airport, was unavailable Wednesday evening.
No other information was available as of press time Wednesday.
