Fence replacement on I-8 starts Monday
Fencing along a six-mile stretch of Interstate 8 in Yuma will be replaced in a project to begin Monday.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will replace the fence along both sides of I-8 from the interchange at 16th Street to the interchange at Araby Road. The project includes removal of the existing fence and installation of new chain-link fence, according to Lucy Shipp, ADOT spokeswoman in Yuma.
Starting Monday, the work will take place from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Completion is scheduled for the end of February. There will be no work Nov. 26-27 for Thanksgiving, Dec. 24-25 for Christmas and Dec. 31-Jan. 1 for New Year's.
Since the work will be along the sides of the highway, there will be no traffic restrictions or delays. However, ADOT advises motorists to use caution throughout the project area.
Funding for the $255,000 project is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as part of the federal economic stimulus program.
