Gear Heads car, truck, bike show Saturday
Have a hankering for hot rods? Then head to the John Bunte Memorial Gear Heads 4 festival.
The car, truck, bike show and family festival will take place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church campus, 3261 Avenue 6E.
This year's festival, the fourth annual, has been renamed to honor founder Jerry Bunte's father, who died two weeks before last year's show.
“He was my inspiration. I like hot rods because of him,” said Jerry Bunte, festival president.
The festival benefits Living Free Ranch, a men's drug and alcohol recovery program in Yuma.
Last year's Gear Heads drew hundreds of vehicles and more than 4,000 spectators. This year Bunte expects just as many participants and spectators, if not more.
The show will feature cars in all makes and models, including classic hot rods, stock cars, drag cars, 4x4s, lowriders, motorcycles, bicycles, imports, exotics, late models and trucks.
The festival will have live music, vendors, raffles, a petting zoo, demonstrations and a Yuma Aeromodelers air show.
Admission will cost $2 per person, children ages 12 and under free.
“You get a lot of stuff for $2 and lots of free stuff,” Bunte noted.
The spectator gate opens at 9 a.m. Judging will begin at 10 a.m. The band Borrowed Time will perform at 11 a.m., followed by Gear Heads Crackle Fest at 2 p.m.
The awards and trophy presentation will be held at 4 p.m., with the Winners Circle Cruise at 4:30 p.m.
