SAN LUIS FIREFIGHTERS were dispatched to the city's Del Sol Market on Friday morning because the store's tortilla maker caught on fire. The fire was put out quickly and contained just to the tortilla machine. No one was injured and there were no other reports of damage.

Tortilla machine catches fire

A malfunctioning tortilla machine may have led to a fire last week at the Del Sol Market in San Luis, Ariz., the city's fire department said.

According to San Luis Fire Department Public Information Officer Luis Cebreros, firefighters were called to the grocery store, located at 656 N. San Luis Plaza Drive, at 3:52 a.m. on Friday.

Cebreros said firefighters saw heavy black smoke and flames coming out the store's exhaust vents.

Cebreros said firefighters entered the building and extinguished the fire quickly.

A store employee told firefighters she heard a loud “pop” coming from the tortilla maker machine and then saw smoke. She then dialed 911.

"We got there pretty quick," Cebreros said. "Nothing else got damaged."

Cebreros said that no one was injured and the fire was contained just to the tortilla machine.

While the cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday, Cebreros said a fire department investigation indicated that the tortilla machine had malfunctioned.
