Fire damages storage sheds, vehicles
Investigators on Monday were looking into the cause of a wind-fueled fire that damaged two storage sheds and several vehicles near a Yuma home Sunday.
City of Yuma firefighters stopped the fire before it could spread to the home, 1395 W. 4th St., and other residences nearby, said fire inspector Kayla Holiman.
Firefighters' efforts to stop the fire were complicated by downed power lines in the area as well as high winds that threatened to whip up the flames, the department said in a news release.
Firefighters were called to the home shortly after 12:30 p.m after a passing driver saw flames and smoke in the backyard and notified the homeowner, the department said.
The fire is believed to have started somewhere in the vicinity of the two storage sheds and a nearby pickup, a travel trailer and all-terrain vehicle, Holiman said Monday morning, adding the cause was still under investigation by city fire inspectors.
Power was shut off and firefighters quickly brought the flames under control, the department said.
The sheds and vehicles were heavily damaged, the news release said.
"The fire did not damage the surrounding residences," Holiman said, "so that's a good thing. It was contained outside."
There were no injuries.
