Fire extinguished inside mobile home

Firefighters from Rural/Metro responded to a report of a mobile home possibly on fire Sunday evening in the 12000 block of East 34th Street.

According to Rural/Metro spokeswoman Charly McMurdie, a neighbor called in at about 7:30 p.m. saying he could see fire underneath the mobile home.

Rural/Metro responded with several fire engines and personnel. However, when firefighters arrived, they did not see any flames coming from the residence “but they could smell something burning,” McMurdie said.

While one group of firefighters began pulling the skirting off the trailer to make sure the fire wasn't burning underneath it, another group entered the residence through a back door.

“When they opened the door, it suddenly filled the neighborhood with smoke,” McMurdie said.

Firefighters made their way down the hall to one of the back bedrooms, where they found a small fire and quickly extinguished it.

McMurdie said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The residents were not at home at the time.
