Fire destroys detached garage and motorcycle at Foothills residence

A late afternoon fire on Sunday in the Foothills destroyed a detached garage at a residence in the 12000 block of Ironwood Drive.

Rural/Metro spokeswoman Charly McMurdie, said the company received multiple 911 calls reporting the fire and dispatched firefighters and several units to the residence shortly after 4 p.m.

“Firefighters at Station 2 could see smoke coming from the area and reported it to dispatch, which upgraded the call,” McMurdie said.

McMurdie explained that when Rural/Metro receives a report of a fire it responds with as many units as possible. She went on to say that when the first unit arrives on scene it will determine if all the other units are needed, and if they are, the call is upgraded.

If those additional units aren't needed the call will be downgraded and all the units still en route will return to their stations.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found the garage on the property was completely engulfed in flames and quickly put it out.

“The owner was on scene,” McMurdie said. “No other structures were endangered.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. McMurdie said the garage, and the motorcycle in it at the time, were both a total loss.

No one was injured in the incident.
