County announces February flu clinics

There is still a chance for Yuma County residents to receive a flu shot.

And that's for both the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, and the seasonal flu, according to a news release from the county.

According to the release, workers with the Yuma County Public Health District will offer the vaccines from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday during the month of February. The vaccines are available in room 256, the Nursing Division, at 2200 W. 28th St. in Yuma.

The H1N1 vaccine, also known as the flu shot, and the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV), also known as the flu mist are available, and there is no cost for individuals to receive the H1N1 vaccine. The seasonal flu shots cost $25 for adults, and $10 for children, according to the release. Cash, Medicare and AHCCCS (Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System) are accepted.

According to the release, clinics are open to people of all ages with a physical address in Yuma County. Shots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

"Our goal continues to be engaging at-risk audiences who are not yet vaccinated, hesitant about vaccination, or unsure about where to get vaccinated," said Becky Brooks, Public Health District Director, in the release. "The number of confirmed cases of flu may be decreasing, however to protect yourself and your families I would still recommend to anyone that has not received the seasonal or H1N1 vaccine to do so."

According to the release, to date, the H1N1 vaccine has been distributed to many area physicians, Fry's, Mollen clinics, Walgreens and Healthwaves and will continue to be allotted to them for the rest of the flu season.

For more information regarding both kinds of flu, call the 2009-2010 Flu Season phone line with recorded information at (928) 373-1025.
