Food drives at libraries, ReStore
Help the local needy by using food like you would money.
Monday begins the 23rd annual Food for Fines program at Yuma County libraries. For every 10-ounce (or bigger) can you give, you can take care of $1 in overdue fines. The drive runs through Dec. 22.
Only labeled cans will be accepted. Please do not donate any dented or expired cans or glass jars. All cans of food will be donated to the Yuma Community Food Bank.
The local libraries collected 2,618 cans in last year's drive.
Or maybe you'd like to use food as a coupon. Through the month of December, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, 3242 E. 43rd St., will give discounts to customers who bring in canned or other nonperishable food items for the Yuma Community Food Bank. The bigger the donation, the bigger the discount. Here's the breakdown: two items, 10 percent off; four items, 20 percent off; six items, 30 percent off; or eight items, 40 percent off.
