Fundraiser to benefit boy battling leukemia
A fundraiser is planned in support of a 12-year-old Somerton boy battling leukemia. The benefit for Alexis Gallardo will be held Sunday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 225 S. 1st Ave.
From noon to 5 p.m., the event will feature barbecue, music and raffles.
All funds raised are to help offset the family's expenses of travelling to Phoenix for Alexis' treatments, explained Rosalie Mercado, a member of the order.
“You can either eat in and enjoy the music of DJ Rudy Espinoza, or take your food to go,” she noted.
In addition, the nonprofit organization, which has the motto of “people helping people,” is accepting monetary contributions for Alexis and/or items that can be raffled off.
“We are looking forward to the participation from the generous citizens of Yuma and the surrounding communities at the barbecue fundraiser,” Mercado said.
