HSOY puts on fashion show for a good ‘paws'
Never before has it been so fashionable to help out animals in Yuma County.
That's because the Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) Thrift Shops will host a fashion show Sunday with proceeds going toward the HSOY Spay and Neuter Clinic.
Volunteer Manager Sherrell Judish and Assistant Manager Annette VanStratten say they have a mix of fashion items from the HSOY thrift store.
From sequined formal dresses to casual and cool, “We got everything,” VanStratten said.
The event, “Runway with the Animals,” will feature outfits and accessories from the HSOY Thrift Store. Tickets are $15 and include refreshments, such as iced tea, hot tea, lemonade and snacks including tea sandwiches and cookies.
The show will run from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the HSOY Furniture Thrift Store, located at 3780 S. 4th Avenue, which is one mile south of the former Mervyn's building and next to the spay & neuter clinic and The Closet Lounge.
VanStratten said organizers hope to draw attention to both HSOY thrift stores and the Spay and Neuter Clinic.
“A lot of people don't even know we exist,” she said.
Judish said they also hope to promote adoption and “forever homes” for the animals at the HSOY.
And with the theme “Over the Rainbow,” they added that there's a good chance to catch a special glimpse of a “Toto” model.
Attendees will be able to purchase all the clothing from the show and more, including a chance to adopt an animal, Judish said.
The other thrift store is located on the corner of 4th Avenue and 24th Street, behind Audio Einsteins.
And Sunday, it's all about the “thrifty threads.”
“We want to have fun,” she said.
In addition, there will be a raffle of baskets made up of items from the thrift store, she said.
Tickets will be sold at the door.
