Ex-Kofa teacher suspected of sex with minor
A former Kofa High teacher was arrested Thursday in Montana for alleged inappropriate sexual conduct with a male student beginning in 2006.
Christopher Parrett was taken into custody in Helena, where he is currently employed as a high school teacher.
The Yuma Police Department released a statement saying that it "received a delayed report alleging inappropriate sexual conduct between a former Kofa High School teacher and a male student who was 16 at the time. The conduct began in 2006 and involved former Kofa High teacher Christopher Parrett."
An investigation was conducted with findings presented to the Yuma County Attorney's Office. A criminal complaint charging Parrett, 33, with sexual conduct with a minor was issued, as was an arrest warrant.
Miguel Sanchez, child sex crimes/sex offenders detective for the YPD, located Parrett in Helena, after which he was taken into custody and interviewed regarding the allegations. He was to be booked into jail in Helena and will face extradition proceedings.
The investigation remains open and ongoing, police said
An Internet search revealed a Chris Parrett listed as a teacher at Helena's Capital High. Neither Yuma Union Superintendent Toni Badone, Kofa High Principal Gina Thompson nor Capital High Principal Randy Carlson immediately returned calls from The Sun on Thursday.
Yuma police encourage anybody with information about the case to call the department at 783-4421, or 78-CRIME (782-7463) to remain anonymous.
