Library offers literacy workshops
The Yuma County library branch in San Luis, Ariz., is offering a series of family literacy workshops for parents in the city and the south county.
The series, which teach parents how to instill in their children of love of reading, takes place every Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the library at 1075 N. 7th Ave. through March 15.
The sessions are available in English and Spanish. Admission is free and open to all parents with children ranging in age from infancy to 5.

The series is designed to show parents how their youngsters acquire language skills and how they can help their children learn to love reading, said Sarah Wisdom, spokeswoman for the Yuma County Library District.
Participants will receive free written material that they can take home and use to help their children read.
The district is offering the workshop in association with the Eight-Arizona PBS Educational Outreach program of the PBS public television network. A grant from the First Things First program and from the Yuma Regional Partnership Council is funding the workshops.
