LULAC offering scholarships to south county students
SAN LUIS, Ariz. — The League of Latin American Citizens is offering scholarships to high school seniors in south Yuma County who want to continue their education at community colleges, universities or technical schools.
Applications will be accepted through March 23. The scholarships will be presented at LULAC's annual scholarship dinner April 20.
LULAC has set a goal of raising $16,000 or more to offer scholarships to students from San Luis, Ariz., Somerton and Gadsden and other areas in the south county who are seniors this year.
To qualify, students must have grade-point averages of 3.0 or better and must be U.S. citizens or legal residents, said Leticia Aragon, LULAC Council 1091 president.
Counseling offices at area high schools have information about applying for the scholarships, Aragon said, or call her at 550-8712 or Mónica Castro at 750-7443.
“We want to let the students know about this opportunity that LULAC is offering and that this is an incentive for youths who wish to continue their studies,” said Aragon. “They represent the future of our communities.”
