Downtown traffic circle will be restricted Friday

Following recent successful slurry sealing of the traffic circle at Giss Parkway and Madison Avenue, additional work in the intersection will create restrictions for downtown drivers on Friday.

Starting at 7 a.m. Friday, Madison Avenue will be closed both north and south of Giss Parkway so that crews can make improvements and place lane stripes in the traffic circle, also known as a roundabout.

Madison traffic should detour using 1st Avenue. Access to all properties bordering Madison, however, will be maintained during this work. That includes the parking lot east of Madison, which will be accessible via 3rd Street by detouring from Main Street. Homes on Madison south of Giss can be reached by taking 1st Avenue to 5th Street east back to Madison.

In addition, Giss Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this work. Crews will be working alternately between outside lanes and inside lanes. The speed limit on Giss Parkway will be reduced to 25 mph during the project.

Work is expected to be complete by the end of the traditional business day on Friday.
