McTeachers raising money for their schools

Local teachers and principals will work at McDonald's throughout February as a way to raise funds for their schools.

Local McDonald's restaurants are hosting monthlong McTeacher's Night Challenge fundraisers to benefit 12 Yuma schools as well as 12 from Imperial Valley. The schools that raise the most money will receive an additional $1,000 donation from area McDonald's owners Joe Johnson and Jose Leon.

On any given night of the fundraiser, a portion of McDonald's front counter sales from 5 to 7 p.m. will benefit the schools.

“Each school's principal and teachers will ‘work' at McDonald's greeting customers, working the registers,” stated a McDonald's news release. “Families of students and local school supporters are encouraged to visit McDonald's and tip their teachers to help raise funds.”

Event dates, participating schools and McDonald's locations for Yuma include:

• Feb. 13 – James D. Price School – McDonald's, 11125 E. Commercial Loop

• Feb. 13 – Pueblo Elementary – McDonald's, 1610 S. Avenue B

• Feb. 19 – Salida del Sol Elementary – McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

• Feb. 20 – Mesquite Elementary - McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

• Feb. 21 – Palmcroft Elementary – McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

• Feb. 25 – Pecan Grove Elementary – McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

• Feb. 26 – Roosevelt Elementary – McDonald's, 1610 S. Avenue B

• Feb. 26 – Yuma Lutheran School – McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

• Feb. 27 – Fourth Avenue Junior High – McDonald's, 1195 E. 16th St.

• Feb. 27 – Gary Knox Elementary – McDonald's, 1610 S. Avenue B

• Feb. 28 – H.L. Suverkrup Elementary – McDonald's, 1610 S. Avenue B

• Feb. 28 – O.C. Johnson Elementary – McDonald's, 2501 S. 4th Ave.

“We are delighted to bring this McTeacher's Night Challenge to Yuma and the Imperial Valley and work with our local schools to raise money for education,” the owners said. “We take great pride as local business owners in giving back to our communities.”
