Yuma man killed in motorcycle accident
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A 58-year-old Yuma man was killed Tuesday when he crashed his motorcycle into the rear of a pickup near Dateland.
According to information provided by Harold A. Sanders, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Rodney Baxter was riding his 2007 Harley-Davidson eastbound on Interstate 8, near milepost 85 (near Sentinel) at about 7:23 a.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle.
Sanders said when Baxter lost control of his motorcycle, he drove into the rear of an 2005 GMC pickup, which was being driven by Gila Bend resident Socorro Beltran, 43, who was also traveling eastbound.
It is not known why Baxter lost control of his motorcycle, or if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
After the collision, Baxter was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.
Sanders said Baxter was transported by medical helicopter to a Phoenix area hospital, but was declared deceased en route.
The driver of the GMC pickup was wearing safety restraints and was not injured in the accident, according to Sanders.
Sanders also said there is no enforcement action pending from the wreck.
