Foothills standoff suspect charged with three felonies
A criminal complaint was filed Thursday in Yuma Justice Court against the Foothills man who was arrested Tuesday following a nearly five-hour standoff with deputies from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.
Although his attorney Marlo Arnold waived the formal reading of the complaint and advisement of her client's rights during the arraignment hearing, Yuma Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart informed 31-year-old Jason Anderson that he had been charged with one count each of disorderly conduct, aggravated assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm, all of which were categorized as involving domestic violence.
Arnold also asked the judge to allow her client to remain out of custody since he had already posted a $150,000 bond and that the case is still being investigated, with many details still unknown. The judge agreed to the request.
Stewart also scheduled Anderson's next court date, a preliminary hearing, for Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
At about 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office received a 911 call from a neighbor who reported hearing a gunshot and a woman screaming inside a home at 11560 S. Sandra Ave. When deputies arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with the occupants of the residence, but were unsuccessful in doing so.
Deputies could tell people were inside the residence but refusing to come to the door, so they set up a perimeter around the home and evacuated some of the neighboring residences.
Negotiators then spent the next several hours trying to make contact with the occupants of the home while a search warrant was drafted. The sheriff's office Special Response Team (SRT) also responded to the scene.
Negotiators were finally able to speak with the occupants of the home on a cellphone at about 8:30 a.m. for a few moments, but they still refused to come out of the residence and speak with deputies.
Finally the SRT team made entry into the house and detained two adults. Anderson was later arrested.
Once the incident was over, sheriff's office investigators served the search warrant at the residence.
