Dehydrated immigrant rescued

An illegal immigrant was treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center for dehydration Thursday after Border Patrol agents found him lying on the ground near Winterhaven, the patrol said.

The alien from Mexico told members of the Yuma Sector Border Patrol's Search, Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) team who found him that morning that he had been without water for four days.

The BORSTAR team found the alien near railroad tracks after following his footprints from a railroad siding near Winterhaven, the patrol said.

The rescue came after Union Pacific Railroad Police notified the patrol that they had seen a person near the siding who appeared to be in distress.

The alien told patrol agents he had illegally entered the country near San Diego and had illegally boarded a train for Riverside before ending up in Winterhaven, the patrol said.
