Patrol seizes nearly 300 pounds of pot

Wellton-based Border Patrol agents found nearly 300 pounds of marijuana in an abanonded car parked along Highway 85 Thursday.

The pot, valued an $237,120, was wrapped in 12 bundles in the Chrysler Concord, found parked at mile marker 7 at 9 a.m., the patrol said.

The vehicle was believed to traveling in tandem with a 2003 Dodge pickup that was later found abandoned about 1.5 miles to the east of the mile marker, the patrol said.

The Dodge had been stolen in Phoenix, the patrol said.

A search of the area failed to locate drivers or passengers of either vehicle, the patrol said.

The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the patrol said.
