Prop 301 pay plan on Crane agenda

The Crane Elementary School District governing board will be deciding whether or not to adopt a Proposition 301 performance pay plan for the 2012-2013 school year at a meeting Tuesday.

The 5 p.m. meeting will start off with a public hearing where members of the public have the opportunity to speak in regards to the performance pay plan that allows teachers to earn up to $2,000 on top of their regular salary.

“Arizona voters adopted Proposition 301 in November 2000. The initiative provided that a certain portion of the monies collected from an increase in the state sales tax would be devoted to performance pay for qualified teachers. Also dollars generated by State Land Trust sales are earmarked for this program,” stated Crane officials.

“Crane Schools has divided its portion of the performance pay funds into two elements. The first requires each teacher to demonstrate an improvement in reading for five students. The second element requires each teacher to participate in three coaching sessions.”

Tuesday's meeting will be held at the Crane Education Center, 4250 W. 16th St. Visit www.craneschools.org/agendas to view the meeting agenda.
