Gosar coasts to win in Arizona's 4th District

Freshman Rep. Paul Gosar has easily won election to Arizona's 4th Congressional District seat.

The district runs from western Arizona through Prescott and south of Phoenix, and includes parts of Yuma County.

Gosar switched to the 4th District from the 1st District after redistricting carved out many Republican voters and made it more competitive. He beat state Sen. Ron Gould and radio station owner Rick Murphy in the GOP primary.

Gosar was challenged by Democrat Johnnie Robinson. The race included Libertarian candidate Joe Pamelia and Americans Elect candidate Richard Grayson.

In Yuma County, Gosar received 67 percent of the early votes, according to unofficial results Tuesday evening.

Robinson followed with 29 percent of the early votes. Pamelia garnered just above 2.5 percent while Grayson got just a bit more than a half percent of the early votes. Tuesday's election was considered a lock for Gosar because the district is heavily Republican.

Statewide unofficial results showed Gosar led with 67 percent, followed by Robinson with 28 percent, Pamelia with 4 percent and Grayson with 1 percent.
