Volkswagen car show to benefit Amberly's Place
Yuma-area residents are invited to the annual Volkswagen on the River car show this Saturday at the Yuma Gateway Park, 259 S. Gila St.
The event, a benefit for Amberly's Place, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spectators will be granted entrance for $2 per person. Those 12 and under can attend the show for free. Pets on leashes are welcome at the event.
Those who want to showcase their Volkswagen vehicles can do so for a $10 entry fee. The event is open to all Volkswagen makes and models from classic to modern.
There will be “a mixture of all different Volkswagens out there for the show,” said Trevor Umphress, marketing and fundraising coordinator for Amberly's Place.
“Every year it gets bigger and bigger. It used to be about 10 to 15 Volkswagens locally owned, but now the way it is set up, it brings people from San Diego and other regions because of the Volkswagen community. They are hoping to have a full venue.”
Vendor spaces are also available for $20. Volkswagen parts swappers can attend for free.
All proceeds from the ticket sales, entry fees and vendor fees will be donated to Amberly's Place, a Yuma-area nonprofit organization offering services to the victims of child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse.
The event is an excellent place for families to gather together and enjoy themselves while helping a good cause, Umphress said.
“It gives them a chance to get out, have some fun with their family, and see some classic cars. At the same time, they are being a voice for victims and assisting Amberly's Place.”
