Gunslingers top award winners in parade
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Deguello Gunslingers took top awards from the judges Saturday in the Yuma Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo Parade.
The Wild West re-enactment group was judged as winners of the Rodeo Chairman's Award, the Sweepstakes Award and first in Community Organization Floats.
Various floats, riding groups, vehicles and other entries also took first- and second-place honors in judging that preceded the parade.
More than 100 entries took part in the parade, theme of which was "Lasso the Old West." The parade began at 4th Avenue and 15th Street, proceeded north on 4th Avenue, turned off Orange and ended at Giss Parkway.
Winners of parade entry judging were as follows:
-Horseback, Matched Western Pair - The Orduno family, first place.
-Horseback, Mounted Color Guard - Yuma County Sheriff's Posse Mounted Color Guard, first place; Escondido Mounted Posse, second place.
-Horseback, Mounted Riding Group - Escondido Mounted Posse, first place; 4-H horse group, second place
-Horseback, hitch-drawn vehicle - Wells Fargo, first place
-Horseback, Family Riding Group - Robert and Bill Olague, first place
-Horseback, Charro Group - Three Generation Charros, first place
-Floats, Community Organization - Deguello Gunslingers, first place; Caballeros de Yuma, second place
-Floats, Commercial - Quechan Tribal Gaming Office, first place; Yuma Association of Realtors, second place
-Floats, eighth-graders and under - Yuma Family YMCA School Age Program, first place; Cub Scouts Pack 55, second place
-Floats, ninth-graders and up - Yuma FFA, first place; Yuma Cinderella, second place
-Floats, Religious Organizations - Amazing Grace on the West, first place; The River's Kid Church, second place
-Antique Vehicles - Legends of the West, first place; Roger and Patricia Young, second place
-Car Clubs - La Raza Auto Club, first place; Camaro and Firebird Car Club, second place
-Other Vehicles - Dillon Edwards, first place; U.S. Border Patrol, second place
