Tips still coming in on murders of six, but Yuma police have no new information to release
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Yuma Police are continuing to investigate the murders of six people that occurred on June 24, but they have no new information to release, according to spokesman Clint Norred.
Norred said the number of tips and calls coming in from the public has not slowed, and police are continuing to interview people.
"Calls are still coming in, which is a positive note," Norred said. "One person in the community may have that information which could be an important piece of the puzzle."
Adrienne Heredia and her four children: Andreas Crawford, 13; Enrique Bedoya, 12; Inez Newman, 9; and Danny Heredia III, 6, were found dead June 24 in their home at 2037 E. La Mesa St.
Luis Rios, Heredia's boyfriend, was found in the back yard of the home with multiple gun shot wounds.
While police have said how Rios died, the causes of death for the five found in the home have not been released.
Norred said the autopsy results on all of the victims were still pending. However, even when full results are available to police, they will not be released publicly.
"Right now, we're following the direction of the (Yuma) County Attorney," Norred said.
County Attorney Jon Smith had previously requested that the autopsy results not be released.
The autopsies were done by a forensic pathologist with the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office.
The funeral for Rios was held Wednesday. The funeral for the other five victims was held on Friday.
Norred said police have already interviewed more than 100 people as of a week ago, and that pace has continued. "It hasn't really slowed down a lot," he said.
Police have recanvassed neighborhoods to speak to people about what they may have heard or know. Norred said La Mesa Street was one of the areas that was recanvassed.
While the case continues to be a high priority, little information has come out since the days just after the killings. When asked if police were getting closer to making an arrest, Norred said it was hard to speculate.
"It would be premature to say we're getting closer," he said. "The detectives are working on interviews and putting the pieces together."
The original suspect sketch police released is still valid, according to Norred. The sketch is of a male, age 27 to 34, 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall; weighing 220 pounds with a stocky build and black hair.
Police have said that the sketch is based on information from a single witness who saw someone running from the home.
"It's been on national news and on cnn.com," Norred said. "It will be on America's Most Wanted this weekend or the next. It's getting the attention."
