Police share more details of parking lot murder
Yuma police released more information Thursday about last week's murder of a Yuma man in a downtown parking lot.
On Oct. 12 at about 1 a.m., officers who arrived at a parking lot at 38 W. 2nd St. in reference to a disturbance found Frank Salazar Jr. with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
Yuma police say their investigation revealed that Salazar was at Jimmie Dee's bar with some friends when they got into a verbal disturbance with another group of people.
Both groups left the bar, where they continued yelling at each other outside in the north parking lot. Police say that led to the groups throwing bottles at each other, which eventually led to shots being fired and Salazar being wounded.
Police say they have located and interviewed everyone from both groups. But some of them are believed to be withholding information about what led to the shooting and not being truthful about what happened.
Although everyone was released after being questioned, Yuma police are trying to get them to come forward with what they know, but they are still refusing to cooperate.
The Yuma Police Department encourages anyone with information about this case to call Sgt. Rodriguez at 373-4678, or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
