Wellton police recover property stolen in burglaries

Acting on a tip, Wellton police, with the assistance of the Arizona DPS State Gang Task Force and the Yuma Police Department, recovered nearly $6,000 worth of stolen furniture and other items but were unable to arrest any suspects.

According to David Rodriguez of the Wellton Police Department, the agencies executed a search warrant Wednesday at an apartment complex at 1878 S. 8th Ave. in Yuma.

During the execution of that warrant, approximately $5,800 worth of stolen furniture and a generator were recovered. No one was at the residence.

Rodriguez said the case remains under investigation as officers work to identify and locate the suspects. The stolen property was taken during two burglaries over the past week in Wellton.

The first burglary occurred at about 9:45 a.m. Jan. 3 when a residence in 11800 block of Comanche Street was forcibly entered and approximately $7,700 worth of furniture and other miscellaneous items taken.

The second burglary occurred three days later at about noon, when a generator valued at $1,000 was reported missing from a residence in the 11700 block of McCullough Avenue.
