Semi-truck crash causes fire, power outage

A semi-truck hit a power pole near the Yuma Community Food Bank Saturday afternoon, causing a small brush fire and a power outage that affected 1,675 APS customers.

The incident happened at about 4:40 p.m.

Rural/Metro responded to the scene a short time later and found the crash had caused a live power line to fall to the ground, causing the fire. The fire was extinguished and, according to Rural/Metro, there was no serious damage. Yuma County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

The power was restored to all but four APS customers within about an hour of the outage. The customers still without power included the businesses located northeast of 24th Street and Engler Avenue. APS expected the power to be completely restored by late Saturday evening.
