Candidates in primary election introduced
With the primary elections right around the corner on Aug. 24, the Yuma Sun will run a mini-series on the races and candidates that residents will decide on later this month.
In Congressional District 7, which covers Yuma, and statewide Senate race, Yuma residents will pick from a list of candidates for U.S. senator and congressman.
According to a news release from Yuma County, “It is important for all registered voters to remember that in a primary election the political parties' candidates are selected for the Nov. 2 general election. The official parties represented on the primary ballot in Arizona for 2010 are the Democratic, Green, Libertarian and Republican parties.”
That means, if a voter is registered to one of those four political parties, he or she will receive their party's ballot only.
But voters who are registered as Independent, no party preference, or as a member of a non-recognized political party may choose one of the four ballots as part of the open primary process.
