Rodeo queens sign autographs and kick off 2008 queen selections
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Yuma Jaycees' reigning Silver Spur Rodeo queens will sign autographs Saturday in an event that will launch the search for their successors. Audrey Hall, the 2007 queen, and Aerika Leeds, the teen queen, will be at the Western Warehouse, 242 W. 32nd St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for an application launch party and autograph signing.
"The event is an opportunity to meet the queens and to sign autographs," said Laurie Brown, Jaycees royalty director.
Girls hoping to compete for the 2008 queen titles will be able to get details about applying for the competitions as well as the application forms.
"Applications will have detailed information on the requirements for the 2008 royalty. The Silver Spur Rodeo queen ages are from 18 to 24 single women, and for the teen queen, 13 to 17," Brown said.
The rodeo queen will receive a $2,000 scholarship to any college of her choice. Both of the queens will be presented a new saddle and numerous prizes.
After Saturday, applications will be available at the Crazy L Feed and Tack, 2681 E. County 14th St.; Yuma Feed and Livestock Supply, 2380 W. 32nd St.; and Lerma's Feed, Western Wear and More, 225 S. Bingham Ave. in Somerton.
Deadline for completed applications is Nov. 4, at which time competition and other event schedules will be announced.
