Van rolls off I-8
A van carrying nine people headed east on Interstate 8 rolled down a ravine Saturday evening. The van reportedly went off the freeway near milepost 20 in the Telegraph Pass area at about 6:20 p.m.
“When Rural/Metro (Fire Department) arrived, the firefighters found what appeared to be a van on its top that had gone off into a ravine,” said Charly McMurdie, Rural/Metro public information officer.
An adult woman was driving and the rest were teenagers, according to the Arizona Department of Safety.
“The driver was trapped and had to be extricated by Rural Metro Fire,” McMurdie added.
All passengers were injured, but DPS did not know their medical condition or the reason for the collision by press time.
One passenger was flown out by CareFlight, and the other eight passengers were taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, one by Tri-Valley Ambulance, McMurdie said.
