Drive Safe to watch 16th Street

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Sixteenth Street will be the focus of Project Drive Safe, the Yuma Police Department's traffic enforcement campaign, beginning Monday.

Police officers will issue citations for various infractions they see, but police say the main focus will be motorists who run red lights, block intersections or commit turning violations.

In Drive Safe, officers monitor a different street each week in an ongoing program to promote safe driving by issuing citations. Sixteenth Street will be monitored through Jan. 20, police said in a news release.

The program began in 2005. Since the start of 2008, police have issued a total of 46 citations in Drive Safe.
