The event, intended to attract visitors from around Yuma County as well as neighboring Mexico, will take place outdoors on two blocks of Main Street in the downtown commercial district, next to the border, beginning at noon.

Festival organizers are the city of San Luis and the San Luis Chamber of Commerce.

The event, scheduled to continue till 9 p.m. Saturday, will feature performances by up to 13 music and dance groups, among them folkloric dancers from the Mexican states of Sonora, Baja California and Oaxaca, as well as California, city officials said.

Bands performing music for the event will include Teoría Musical, Legacia Norteña and Creación Norteña.

City officials are expecting up to 3,000 people for the inaugural event, and city spokeswoman Karin Meza said the city and the chamber of commerce hope to make the festival an annual event.
