1 killed, 6 others injured in I-8 rollover Wednesday
Comments 0 | Recommend 0One person was killed and six others were injured Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 8 in eastern Yuma County.
According to Harold A. Sanders, spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred in the westbound lane of I-8 near milepost 73 at about 11:30 a.m.
While Sanders said he did not have any details of the exact cause of the accident, preliminary indications are the driver of the vehicle, a passenger van, lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason, which caused it to go off the roadway and roll over.
According to Sanders, there were seven occupants in the van when the accident occurred, two adults and five children.
One of the injured occupants was transported by air ambulance and five by ground ambulance. Sanders did not have any information on whether an adult or child was airlifted or to which hospital they were all transported.
He said the names of the occupants were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
It is unknown if any of the occupants were wearing safety restraints, Sanders said.
The investigation is continuing.
