Science teacher symposium offered
Sometimes it is difficult for teachers to get students interested in science, but BIO's fourth annual Arizona K-12 Science Teacher Symposium hopes to change that.
Teachers at the elementary, middle and high school level have the chance to travel to the University of Arizona on Sept. 25 to learn more about interesting science topics and take home usable lessons that can strengthen their current science curriculum.
“The symposium offers teachers from across the state professional development workshops, a science education outreach resource fair, and a chance to network with colleagues in a fun and exciting environment,” said a press release that also mentioned the symposium would count toward eight credit hours for teacher recertification.
Material covered in workshops will include insect ecology, marine critters, health and nutrition, chemistry, immunization, enzymes and biofuels, informational text strategies for students, genetics, GPS mapping, disease outbreaks, the brain, cancer and pollution.
The price of the symposium is $40 for the day, but for those who register by Sept. 8, the cost is only $25.
The cost covers breakfast, lunch, a CD with workshop resources, a resource fair, afternoon reception with door prizes and a laser light or planetarium show at the Flandrau Science Center.
