New Yuma City Council meets Wednesday

The public will get its first chance to see how the new Yuma City Council measures up at Wednesday's meeting.

The 5:30 p.m. regular meeting will be the first for the three newly elected council members.

Cody Beeson, Raul Mendoza and Leslie McClendon will cast their first votes as city leaders Wednesday.

They were elected in 2007. Beeson and Mendoza won their seats in November's general election. McClendon secured hers in the September primary when she received more than 50 percent of the vote.

They replace former council members Al Krieger, Gerry Giss and Scott Johnson. They were up for re-election, but none chose to run again.

Items up for vote at Wednesday's meeting include the consideration of an infrastructure and services report for 80 acres being considered for annexation. Known as the Ott Annexation, it includes an area of undeveloped land at the southeast corner of Avenue 6E and 48th Street.

State law requires a governing body to approve a plan to provide territory with appropriate infrastructure services before annexing it.

The plan for the Ott Annexation covers the distribution of water and sewer services, details about fire protection and other emergency services, and plans for park and recreation sites.
