JASON CAMPBELL

Convicted sex offender living in 10th Street area

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office is notifying the community that convicted sex offender Jason Campbell will be residing in the area of 10th Street and Arizona Avenue in the neighborhood where Crossroads Mission is located.

Campbell, 38, a transient, is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, 285 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is a Level 2 sex offender. He is not wanted by law enforcement at this time.

In 1995 Campbell was convicted of child molestation involving two children under the age of 14 in the state of Washington. On Aug. 3, 2010, he was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender by the Yuma County Superior Court.

Offenders are categorized in three levels. Level 1 is a low risk to reoffend, Level 2 an intermediate risk and Level 3 a high risk. Fliers are being distributed in the immediate vicinity.

Law enforcement has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may or may not live. Unless court-ordered restrictions exist, offenders are constitutionally free to live wherever they choose.

More information about sex offenders can be obtained by visiting the Yuma Police Department's website at http://www.yumaaz.gov/2391.htm or www.azsexoffender.com.
