Comments 0 | Recommend 0Man was booked on 36 felony counts
The man arrested after allegedly exchanging gunshots with Yuma Police Department officers could face 36 felony counts, including 12 for attempted homicide.
Mark Allen Sivori, 46, of Yuma made his initial appearance in Yuma Justice Court on Sunday before Justice of the Peace Pro Tem James Montgomery, after he was booked into Yuma County jail Saturday night on 12 counts of attempted homicide and 24 counts of aggravated assault.
Montgomery found there was probable cause for Sivori's arrest on these charges and set his bond at $1 million.
According to a release from YPD, officers responded to the 900 block of South 6th Avenue at 4:37 p.m. Saturday when they received a report of threats involving a firearm.
According to the release, Sivori's estranged girlfriend reported he pointed a handgun at her and threatened her life. She said she was able to flee the house where she was being held and contact police.
When police arrived, they set up a perimeter around the house but Sivori had already left that location. However, according to the release, he later returned and approached officers near their command post at 10th Street and 5th Avenue.
Sivori began firing his gun at police from within his vehicle, according to the release. A total of 10 law enforcement personnel were all within the direct line of fire, as was Sivori's estranged girlfriend and her neighbor.
Two officers returned fire, according to the release, after which Sivori dropped his weapon and surrender.
No one was injured.
Sivori's next court appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Yuma County Justice Court.
Charges may be officially filed by the Yuma County Attorney's Office at that time.
