Small fire breaks out at San Luis Wal-Mart
Comments 0 | Recommend 0 A small fire broke out in the Wal-Mart store in San Luis Saturday afternoon that caused the evacuation of the building, but the fire was quickly contained, according to a San Luis Police Department spokesman.
The fire started about 5 p.m. in the stationary/school supplies section of the Wal-Mart on 1613 N. Main Street, Javier Arellano, on-duty Sgt. of the SLPD said. He added there were no injuries and that an investigation was still ongoing.
But according to Luis Cebreros, San Luis Fire Department spokesman, a surveillance video tape indicated that a small child had perhaps started the fire but could not be confirmed. He added that two firefighters from San Luis Colorado, Son. who were shopping in the store found extinguishers there and put out the fire.
He also said that flames had risen to about four feet but the fire was just smoldering by the time the San Luis Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene. He added customers and staff were evacuated for about three hours but the store then re-opened for business.
Wal-Mart management declined to comment about the fire.
