Somerton water hook-up hearing set for Monday

SOMERTON — Somerton officials urge residents of the La Mesa and Orange Grove subdivisions to attend a public hearing Monday to learn more about a proposal to connect them to the city's water distribution and sewer systems.

City officials and Nancy Ngai, Yuma County's community planning coordinator, will present the plan at the 6 p.m. meeting at Orange Grove Elementary School, 3525 W. County 16-1/2 St.

The two subdivisions, consisting of about 320 homes, are located on either side of County 16th Street and west of Avenue B.

Residents previously petitioned the city to be hooked up to Somerton's water and sewer system. Currently residents are served by a private water company and have septic tanks.

One of the subjects to be covered Monday is financing of the expansion, Somerton Mayor Martin Porchas said.

For more information about the meeting, call Somerton City Hall at 722-7400.
