Avenue 3E Bridge, Gila Ridge Road to 24th Street
Preliminary work is under way on a $7 million project to improve and widen the Avenue 3E Bridge between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street in Yuma, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. A cooperative effort between ADOT and the city of Yuma, the project is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.
The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement, and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.
32nd Street and Avenue B
Starting Tuesday, the intersection of 32nd Street and Avenue B will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for at least 3 days. Crews are raising utility valves to make them even to the level of pavement. The planned work is in three phases, with each phase lasting approximately 24 hours. Turns will still be permitted but backups may be possible.
Avenue C, from 8th Street north
Avenue C is open to local traffic only between 5th Street and Riverside Drive in this Yuma County street widening and City water main installation project. Through traffic should use Avenue B between 8th Street and 1st Street.
16th Street at Pacific Avenue – private improvements
Work is under way on private property improvements in the southeast corner of 16th Street and Pacific Avenue that will result in 16th Street being reduced to one lane of eastbound traffic and restricted left turns from southbound Pacific onto eastbound 16th.
City of Yuma street maintenance locations week of Sept. 4
City workers will conduct crack seal and grinding operations the week of Sept. 4 in the following locations:
• The Dunes subdivision
• 23rd Street from Avenue B to 20th Drive
City workers will conduct grinding and sweeping operations the week of Sept. 4 in the following locations:
• Pfeiffer Estates subdivision
• La Paloma Estates subdivision
Avenue B at 16th Street – Century Link
A contractor will be placing underground conduits and cables across Avenue B just south of 16th Street near the restaurant exit driveway. This will call for travel restrictions to a single lane of traffic in both north and south directions from the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A speed reduction to 25 mph will be in place. Work is tentatively scheduled for 3 to 4 days.
Avenue A, 8th Street to 16th Street – Public Meeting
The reconstruction of Avenue A between 8th Street and 16th Street is scheduled to begin construction Oct. 1. A public meeting will be held 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at O.C. Johnson Elementary School cafeteria, where residents are invited to learn the details of the project and ask questions of the contractor and city project manager.
