Road Report 10-14-12
Avenue A, 8th Street to 16th Street
The reconstruction of Avenue A between 8th Street and 16th Street is under way. Plans call for reconstructing Avenue A in two-block increments to minimize impact on Avenue A residents.
Currently Avenue A is closed between 8th Street and 10th Street. Additionally the right eastbound lane of 8th Street is closed and left turns from westbound 8th Street are prohibited at Avenue A. 8th Street speed limit is reduced in the construction zone as well.
At an unconfirmed date but likely during the week of Oct. 15, 8th Street will be further narrowed to one lane each direction and Avenue A will be closed on the north side of 8th Street in addition to the south side. 8th Street traffic will remain open, but traffic will not be possible on or from either side of Avenue A. This is a single-day phase of the project that will involve traffic signal repairs as well.
The overall project will also be timed so that work directly in front of O.C. Johnson Elementary School will take place during the school's winter break.
Open House - improvements to westbound I-8 ramps
Yuma City Hall will host an open house meeting to discuss future plans for improving traffic flow at the westbound ramps to and from Interstate 8 at Giss Parkway at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Room 190 of City Hall, One City Plaza. Members of the project assessment team from the city and Kimley-Horn will be on hand to present their findings, take questions and hear from the public regarding a possible future roundabout (also known as a traffic circle or rotary) in this vicinity. Those who cannot attend but wish to seek more information or file a public comment are encouraged to contact city project manager Xanthi Panos at xanthi.panos@yumaaz.gov.
Avenue 3E Bridge
A contractor working for ADOT is improving and widening the Avenue 3E Bridge located between Gila Ridge Road and 24th Street in Yuma. The project is a cooperative effort between ADOT and the city of Yuma and is scheduled for completion in summer 2013.
The project includes widening the bridge over the railroad tracks from two to six lanes with a center median, new pavement, and pedestrian walkways. Two-way traffic is expected to be maintained during expansion of the bridge, which will be built to include three lanes each direction when complete. There will be some speed limit reductions during this project.
32nd St. manhole inspections
Isolated lane restrictions are possible along 32nd Street between Avenue B and Avenue 3E as Century Link will inspect 52 manholes over an approximately 30-day period to end by Dec. 1.
Avenue C, 8th Street to 1st Street
Workers continue on the Yuma County Avenue C reconstruction project. Avenue C is open but with narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit following paving.

1. Pecan Grove - Tuesday and Wednesday
2. Villa Hermosa 2 - Thursday and Friday
